About Us

Welcome To My Moorish Plate.

Hey there! My name is Idriss (pronounced Ee-dris) and I am the lead writer/recipe developer here and also at Brokefoodies.com. The other lovely face of this blog is my wife, Léa. We both own and work together on our blogs to share our stories and passion for cuisine, as well as to show you guys that it takes almost nothing to make good food and even better memories.

A little about me:About 2

I was born and raised in and around Morocco, which means that up until my Canadian adventure, my everyday reality was: the beach; the long, balmy summers of Marrakech; and splendid Moroccan dishes, cooked with love by my wonderful mother. I spent most of my time in Marrakech, exposed to many different dishes and styles of cuisine. All natural, all amazing.

I came to Montréal at the age of 18 to study in some of their finest universities. A decade later, I found myself attached to this city and to its vibrant culture in more ways that I could have ever imagined.

Living in Montréal has been a blessing in many ways, I learned how to cook, got swept up by so many different cuisines, and most importantly met my wife Léa and together we started this thing called Broke Foodies.

What is this blog about?

This blog is all about North-African classics and inspired cuisine. I grew up all over Morocco where I learned the basics of cooking from my awesome mother. My mom taught me moroccan recipes, french techniques and some of my all-time favourite Italian dishes. She is a true specialist of Mediterranean cuisine and I am so glad I had her as my teacher.

The recipes you will find here.

You will find all of the classics right here, from Tagines and Cous Cous, to North African inspired fusion such lamb burgers with Harissa. North African food is by far one of my favourites of all-time and in here you will find just that.

We draw our inspiration from everywhere whether it is restaurants we visit, social media, cravings, or food that friends share with us.

Using our photos and recipes.

You can at any time use our photos and recipes, however we ask you to respect the two following conditions:

  2. Don’t publish the entire recipe on your blog. Example: You can show the ingredients and link to our blog for full instructions.

We work so freaking hard on our recipes and photos and we would really appreciate it if you respect our conditions.
